Drip Proof Motor33

Open Drip-Proof (ODP)

An open machine is one having ventilating openings which permit passage of external cooling air over and around the windings of the machine.  A drip-proof machine is an open machine in which the ventilating openings are so constructed so that successful operation is not affected with when drops of liquid or solid particles strike or enter the enclosure at any angle from 0 to 15 degrees downward from the vertical. This class of motor is the most economical for indoor applications where severe moisture and/or chemical and solvent concentrations will not be encountered. Drip-proof enclosures cannot be supplied with filters. If filters are required, then a WP-1 enclosure will have to be supplied.

Open Drip-Proof Guarded (DPG)

Drip-Proof guarded enclosures are the same as open drip-proof except they have #2 mesh screens on the air inlet and exhaust areas to prevent large "bodies" of material from accidentally entering into the motor, thus preventing damage to the stator winding, rotating parts and to personnel.

Weather Protected, Type 1 (WPl)

A weather protected Type 1 machine is an open machine. Its ventilating passages are constructed to minimize the entrance of rain, snow and air-borne particles to the electric parts and its ventilated openings are constructed to prevent the passage of a cylindrical rod 0.75 inches in diameter.  There are two air inlets and exhausts. The air inlets are located at the ends of the enclosure, (front and rear of motor) while the outlets are located on the sides of the enclosure.  Occasionally the noise level restrictions will be so severe that the standard enclosure will not suffice.  In this case ETI offers two methods to meet the requirements. The first is to line the enclosure with acoustic materials. If this is not sufficient, then in addition, lined turn boxes are added to both the inlet and the outlet.

Weather Protected, Type 2 (WPll)

A weather protected type 2 machine will have, in addition to the top enclosure defined for a weather-protected Type 1 machine, ventilating passages at both intake and discharge. They are arranged so that high velocity air and air-borne particles blown into the machine by storms or high winds can be discharged without entering the internal ventilating passages leading directly to the electrical parts of the machine itself. The normal path of the ventilating air which enters the electric parts of the machine is arranged by baffling or separate housings to provide at least three abrupt changes in direction, none of which are less than 90 degrees. In addition, an area of low velocity not exceeding 600 feet per minute is provided in the intake air path to minimize the possibility of moisture or dirt being carried into the electrical parts of the machine. The air inlet is located on both sides of the enclosure and is covered by a #2 mesh screen. The air outlet located on the ends of the enclosure has two outlets per end covered by louvers. When filters are supplied, these lie in the horizontal position towards the top of the enclosure and can be reached by removing an access cover from either side. Occasionally the noise levels specified will be so severe that the standard enclosure will not suffice. In these cases, the enclosure will be lined with acoustic material.
